Welcome to Class 1’s page!
In Class 1 we follow the EYFS Framework (Early Years Foundation Stage). The EYFS is built around 4 key principles, these are:
- every child is a unique child, who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured;
- children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships;
- children learn and develop well in enabling environments, in which their experiences respond to their individual needs and there is a strong partnership between practitioners and parents and/or carers; and
- Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates and all areas of Learning and Development are equally important and inter-connected.
In EYFS there are seven areas of Learning and Development. The Prime areas are; Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development and Communication and Language The Specific areas of learning are; Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding of the World and Expressive Art and Design. We cover the seven areas of Learning and Development through a cross curricular thematic approach, based on different seasonal and cultural events and on the particular interests of the children. This may include finding out more about dinosaurs, super heroes, fairies and animals.
We focus on ensuring that the children learn through playful experiences and through exploration, with support for each individual. This is done through planned structured play, targeted activities, child initiated learning and adult led activities. Opportunities are created to help develop the children’s creative and critical thinking and they are encouraged to get actively involved in their learning and to make their own decisions.
